Sékou Mara (23) had been expected to leave RC Strasbourg Alsace this summer. His debut season in Alsace proved difficult, following his move from Southampton. He struggled for form and for game time, and it doesn’t look to be getting any easier for him this season.
Emanuel Emegha is undroppable and now wears the captain’s armband, whilst Joaquín Panichelli has hit the ground running since joining this summer. It left Mara looking for a way out of the club, however, the suitors were not necessarily forthcoming.
AJ Auxerre were linked with loaning the striker, however, the move never came off, with the club, against expectations, retaining Lassine Sinayoko. However, despite the transfer window closing in France, there may still be options for Mara.
Notably, the Belgian transfer window remains open. Anderlecht are interested in signing the centre-forward, according to a report from Foot Mercato. However, there is also interest from Swiss side Basel.
