The Spain squad has been named for the World Cup and we take a look at some of the players will who miss out on this winter’s tournament.
Spain XI staying at home
David de Gea – Pedro Porro, Sergio Ramos, Iñigo Martínez, Marc Cucurella – Thiago Alcántara, Dani Parejo, Sergio Canales – Gerard Moreno, Iago Aspas, Borja Iglesias.
Other players who miss out on this year’s World Cup are Real Sociedad quartet Martín Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Brais Méndez and Mikel Oyarzabal.
Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has missed the chance to fly to Qatar as have Athletic Club players Yeray Álvarez, Dani Vivian and Iker Muniain.
Barcelona full-backs Marcos Alonso and Alejandro Balde will also have several weeks of rest as La Roja look to go as far as possible.
None of Rayo Vallecano striker Raúl de Tomás, Leeds forward Rodrigo Moreno or Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo have been called into Luis Enrique’s 26-man squad.
Only one of the top 10 Spanish goalscorers in La Liga this season will go to the World Cup (Álvaro Morata).
