As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has emerged as a priority target for Sevilla. The Premier League side have already approved the player’s exit as they no longer have him in their plans for next season.
Talks are currently at a preliminary stage with the La Liga side. Although the value of the transfer is still being discussed between the two clubs, Lokonga has already agreed to move to Sevilla and personal terms are not expected to be an issue.
The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Luton, however they were unable to sign him on a permanent basis as they were relegated to the Championship. The Hatters isn’t seen as a destination Lokonga would be keen on even if they did avoid relegation.
The defensive midfielder is looking for more regular game time, which he has struggled to get at the Gunners. Sevilla have a lot of admiration for the player and are looking to bring him in on loan, however a permanent deal has not been ruled out at this stage.
Lokonga is in the final year of his Arsenal contract, however the club retain an option to extend it for a further 12 months. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently having a mini tramping camp in Marbella in preparation of the new season.
Nine first-team players are involved in this warm weather training camp, but Lokonga is not one of these involved.
