Setbacks continue for Borussia Dortmund

After overcoming one injury crisis, Borussia Dortmund are in the midst of another. Waldemar Anton suffered an injury in their Klassiker against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday, and now the German defender faces a lengthy time out after Die Schwarzgelben confirmed that he had injured his adductor.

The €22.5m arrival from Stuttgart in the summer had just returned from a thigh injury which kept the player sidelined for five games, and now the 28-year-old is unlikely to play again in this calendar year, missing games against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Barcelona.

Updates on Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt

Karim Adeyemi has missed Borussia Dortmund’s last 11 games, and will have to wait a little longer before making a return. As reported by kicker, Adeyemi isn’t in Dortmund’s plans for this weekend’s game in Mönchengladbach, to avoid risk of further damage after suffering a torn muscle fibre in their 7-1 win against Celtic on October 1.

Julian Brandt meanwhile is in contention. The 28-year-old missed the 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich after suffering an injury against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. Although a desire to play, Dortmund weren’t ready to take that risk: “The risk [of further injury] would have been too great,” said Sahin.

But Brandt is expected to be in Borussia Dortmund’s matchday squad to face Borussia Mönchengladbach.
