Sesko seriously considered joining Arsenal, but was reluctant to play second fiddle to Havertz

RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko gave serious consideration to joining Arsenal last summer but had reservations over whether he would be a regular in the starting XI, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners wanted the 21-year-old, and while he considered the move, he was reluctant to join them amid concerns he would be second-choice to Kai Havertz.

Arsenal made it clear that Sesko would not be guaranteed to play ahead of the Germany international, and he decided to sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club.

His £55 million release clause remains active, and Arsenal remain keen on him and will continue to monitor his situation ahead of next summer.

Sesko ended 2023-24 with 18 goals in 42 games and has seven goals in 14 matches this term.

He will not be short of suitors next summer, and Arsenal must decide whether they want him ahead of other clubs.

Havertz ended last season with 14 goals and seven assists in 51 games and has notched seven goals in 15 appearances this season..

The 25-year-old has continued to prove how valuable he is to the playing style under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners will look to bolster their squad no matter how the current season ends, and signing a forward could be top of their plans with loanee Raheem Sterling still struggling to impress.

However, a move for Sesko is not guaranteed as he clearly wants to join a club where he will be the first-choice striker, and Arsenal cannot offer that.
