According to a report by Foot Mercato, Sékou Mara (22) is set for a return back to Ligue 1 with the forward currently attending his medical ahead of a €12 million move to RC Strasbourg Alsace. If the medical is passed then Mara will sign a five-year contract with the club and put a close on his two-year misadventure in England.
Mara was considered one of the most promising talents to emerge in France when he broke into FC Girondins de Bordeaux’s first team during their disastrous 2021/22 campaign. The club were relegated down to Ligue 2 but Mara had established himself as one of the few bright sparks that the team had.
Back-to-back relegations for Sékou Mara
Southampton came calling and Mara joined the Premier League side. His first year at the club had a few promising moments but inconsistency and the club’s poor form challenged the forward as he suffered back-to-back relegations. Last season, Southampton won promotion back to the Premier League but Mara was largely uninvolved and it was clear that his time in England had come to a close.
