Manchester United fans have taken to social media to slam Luke Shaw following a poor showing from the defender in their latest game.
Ruben Amorim was, no doubt, basking in the temporary relief that came to him following Man United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford. The club were aided massively by Robert Sanchez’s swift dismissal, but the three points were vital, regardless of their performance.
In their next Premier League clash, the Red Devils travelled to Brentford, playing in the early kick-off of game week six. Keith Andrews is still new to his role as Brentford manager, and to top-level management as a whole, having replaced Thomas Frank after the Dane departed in the summer.
Andrews, in turn, recorded what was perhaps the biggest win of his career to date against Man United, who were beaten 3-1 by the Bees. Bruno Fernandes saw a penalty saved in the second-half, one that would have levelled the scoreline, before Mathias Jensen’s stoppage-time goal, on top of Igor Thiago’s first-half brace, ensured the win for Brentford.
Benjamin Sesko netted his first goal as a Red Devil in the game, but there was very little that could be reported in a positive manner for the club. In the match’s immediate aftermath, Man United supporters took to social media, highlighting a poor display from one particular player.
Shaw Is ‘Stealing a Living’ at Manchester United
On X, formerly known as Twitter, one Man United fan said that Luke Shaw was “stealing a living” at the club, whilst another questioned how the defender, who “keeps playing poorly week in, week out,” can continue retaining his place in the first-team. Other supporters wrote:
“We needed to sell Bruno. We kept Luke Shaw and [Harry] Maguire. 3 Solskjaer boys still starting for Manchester United in 2025 going into 2026.”
“Another performance which typifies exactly why Luke Shaw should no longer be playing in the Premier League, let alone for Man United. Off the pace, very little technical offering and gives us even less when contesting in the air. Meanwhile, Yoro is still on the bench.”
Man United fans came down hard on Shaw, but it is hard to argue that the England international had anything other than a torrid time against Brentford.
Shaw Really Struggled Against Brentford
Shaw started the game at left centre-back, part of Amorim’s back-three, and played until after the 80th minute, despite a really shaky display. The Englishman’s move centrally is understandable in a sense, given that injuries have slowed him down as he has gotten older.
As one Man United fan noted in the aforementioned X posts, however, young centre-back Leny Yoro was left on the bench, despite the Frenchman’s ability and potential. Not only that, but given Yoro’s natural position is that of a centre-back, he would surely have been more comfortable against the Bees, especially in light of Shaw’s performance.
According to SofaScore, Shaw made just one tackle in total, also being at fault for an error that led a shot on his goal from Brentford. He won just one of the duels he was involved in and lost possession, staggeringly, 15 separate times before being substituted.
It is no secret that Man United need to find consistently and find it quickly, but if Shaw continues to play in this manner, then Amorim will surely struggle to justify his presence in the first-team for much longer.
