We are now just a matter of days away from the biggest boxing super-fight in the last decade. This upcoming weekend, on Saturday, the 13th of September, Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will clash in front of over 60,000 fans in a super-fight for the ages, which will be broadcast live on Netflix worldwide.
Canelo vs Crawford has been in huge demand for several years, and in September, boxing fans will finally get their wish and witness a true super-fight for the ages. Not only is there a lot of interest in this fight as it is two of the best boxers in the world facing each other, but there is also a lot of intrigue coming into the fight due to the weight it is being held at, as Crawford will be coming up 14 pounds for the highly anticipated clash.
As this is one of the biggest boxing fights in recent memory, plenty of huge names in boxing and sports in general, such as Stephen A. Smith and David Benavidez, have submitted their official predictions for the fight, and the latest person to join them with a prediction is boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. The former four-weight world champion recently appeared on All The Smoke and did an interview with The Ring, where he spoke about the fight and gave his official prediction, as well as insinuating that one man may be lacking the hunger to win.
Roy Jones Jr Backing Terence Crawford to Defeat Canelo Alvarez
During a recent interview with The Ring, boxing legend Roy Jones Jr predicted that Terence Crawford will defeat Canelo Alvarez in their super-fight, which will take place this upcoming weekend. Although a lot has been made of the weight the fight is being contested at, with ‘Bud’ coming up a significant amount in weight, Jones Jr believes he has bulked up enough for it not to be that much of an issue.
“Terence has been bulking up to the weight just like I did as a heavyweight. If he can deal with super middleweights and light heavyweights in training, you can deal with them in the fight. The weight should not even be an issue.”
When further speaking about the fight during his interview with The Ring, Jones Jr revealed that his money would have to go towards Crawford winning, as he has way more paths to victory than the Mexican superstar.
“If Canelo fights the absolute correct fight that he can fight, he does have a chance, and I think he could be victorious. If he doesn’t, Crawford has six ways that he can win it. My money would go with a guy who has six ways to win it over the man who has one way of winning.”
Jones Jr did not only speak to The Ring about the upcoming super-fight, but he also appeared on All The Smoke, where he once again questioned Canelo. The former four-weight world champion was sure that Crawford is still hungry and is determined to achieve more in the sport, but he doesn’t think Canelo has that hunger anymore, although he didn’t go into detail about why he holds that opinion.
