The print edition of Il Messaggero (via TuttoMercatoWeb) reports that Tammy Abraham could miss out on his place in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup campaign in Qatar.
The report highlights that the Englishman has failed to keep up the consistency while finding the back of the nets for Roma this season, somewhat tarnishing the lethal image that he did manage to create of himself after a stellar start to his Giallorossi stint under the management of Jose Mourinho last season.
Following his arrival from Chelsea, Abraham amassed 27 goals from 53 matches across all competitions in his first season in the Italian capital. But since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, the Englishman’s form has been underwhelming, with the 25-year-old having netted only two goals from 14 games in all competitions.
The Italian outlet understands that England manager Gareth Southgate has been keeping a close eye on Abraham’s awful scoring records ahead of the World Cup. While Roma need the English striker to be at his best for the sake of their seasonal ambitions, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if Southgate eventually decides to leave the centre-forward out of England’s World Cup squad.
