Serie A giants Roma are making key progress in a move for Hellas Verona’s Daniele Ghilardi.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that with Evan Ferguson and Neil El Aynaoui sealed, Roma are working to sign a centre-back and negotiations with Verona have progressed quite quickly.
Ghilardi has agreed to sign a five-year deal with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side and his willingness is proving key in the transfer. Ricky Massara has beaten competition from Real Betis in the chase for the Italian already, with Verona looking at a fee of €12 million and they are open to an obligation to buy.
Roma have come very close to their demands and made a new offer late last night and an agreement can be reached soon. Gian Piero Gasperini has been left surprised by the defender’s performances at the U21s European Championships, with Ghilardi having been excluded from Verona’s pre-season game yesterday.
