Roma are moving aggressively to secure a new talisman, with Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee now the primary target.
According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi are nearing a definitive agreement for the Dutch forward, who has already given his green light to the move.
The financial package being prepared by Roma is substantial, totaling €40 million. The deal is structured as an initial loan with a mandatory obligation to buy, ensuring United receives their valuation while allowing Roma to spread the cost. Zirkzee has reportedly agreed to personal terms on a multi-year contract, signaling his desire to return to Serie A where he previously starred for Bologna.
However, there is a timing hurdle. Manchester United is hesitant to sanction an immediate departure and prefers to wait until the middle of January. This delay is strategic, as the Red Devils want to ensure they have enough squad depth to cover for players departing for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) before letting Zirkzee go.
Beyond Zirkzee, the report notes that Roma is also keeping a close eye on Giacomo Raspadori as a potential alternative or additional reinforcement, but the Dutchman remains the absolute priority for the management. With the player’s approval secured, the coming weeks will be about bridging the gap with United over the exact date of the transfer.
