Stade Rennais have no intention of triggering the €20m purchase option in Tottenham centre-back Joe Rodon’s (25) loan deal.
The Welsh international was loaned to the Brittany side for the 2022-2023 season. He has played 22 games in all competitions for Bruno Genesio’s side. Unlike the loans of Karl Toko Ekambi and Tottenham teammate Djed Spence, Rodon’s loan to Stade Rennais included a purchase option. However, Sporting Director Florian Maurice has decided against triggering it, he revealed in an interview with Ouest-France. Rodon is tied to the Spurs until 2025. It remains to be seen whether newly-named Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou will rely on the Welshman.
“As for Joe, there is a very high purchase option. Evidently, it won’t be possible for us to raise that amount”, Maurice said. The Sporting Director indicated he had no news regarding the permanent transfer of Stade Rennais loanee Loïc Badé to Sevilla. “To this day, we hadn’t received confirmation from Sevilla for Loïc Badé’s purchase option,” he said. Maurice added that Stade Rennais are pondering the possibility of bringing in another centre-back, after the Bretons qualified for next season’s Europa League group stage.
