The powers that be at La Liga giants have kicked back into gear efforts to tie one of the club’s brightest young talents down to a new contract.
That’s according to The Athletic, who point towards Paulo Iago as the player in question.
Iago, for his part, is a 17-year-old midfielder, currently plying his trade with Real Madrid’s Juvenil A outfit.
The Spanish starlet has long been considered one of the standout prospects in Los Blancos’ academy, tipped for a bright future with the club’s first-team down the line.
In turn, it has no doubt come as a source of concern for all associated with Real to hear of Iago growing increasingly unhappy with his situation in Spain’s capital.
The youngster feels as though promises have been broken when it comes to his role with the Juvenil A squad, with manager Álvaro Arbeloa having insisted on overlooking him when faced with high-profile fixtures.
As much has culminated in long-standing speculation pointing towards a potential parting of ways between the parties, as Iago seeks out a more consistent role elsewhere.
As alluded to above, though, the Real Madrid brass, evidently, have not yet given up hope of convincing their youth product that precisely that could soon be coming his way with the capital club.
As per a report from Mario Cortegana of The Athletic:
‘Real Madrid are in talks about a new contract for highly-rated academy player Paulo Iago.’
Crucially, however, it is also added that:
‘Doubts have emerged on both sides over whether an agreement will be reached,’ amid interest in Iago’s signature on the part of a whole host of clubs across Europe.
