It’s been no secret that Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid team has been struggling in the defensive department in recent weeks. With the club’s defenders seemingly dropping like flies, they have had to field a makeshift back four in recent games.
All that is set to change however, as Ancelotti has published his 22-man squad to take on Manchester City at the Bernabéu tomorrow evening, and with it comes good news in the defender department.
The squad list includes the returns of David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger, who have both been out of action since the start of February.
In the case of Alaba, the Austrian has only played 62 minutes of football since returning from a long-term injury which kept him out for over a calendar year.
This makes Rüdiger far more likely to play from the start against Man City, while Alaba is more likely to be involved from the bench.
Elsewhere, Lucas Vázquez also returns, providing even more much-needed defensive reinforcement for Real Madrid.
