The Benito Villamarin is set to host a blockbuster clash this weekend as Unai Emery’s Villarreal travel to Seville to take on Betis. Both sides started their European campaigns off with victories in midweek and will be looking to continue their strong start to their domestic season here.

Betis’ last league outing came in a 2-1 loss at the Santiago Bernabeu to league leaders Real Madrid. The sides were level at the half after simple goals from Vinicius Jr and former Real Madrid man Sergio Canales, but a move down the right hand side finished off by Rodrygo allowed Real to wrap up victory in the second half.

Even in defeat, Manuel Pellegrini’s side showed true character and competed with Real Madrid for the entire match. This was expected after Los Verdiblancos’ strong start to the season in which they won their first three games, helped by the form of striker Borja “Panda” Iglesias who has already scored four goals.

Villarreal come into this match after a comfortable 4-0 win against Elche at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium (Villarreal’s current home ground as La Ceramica undergoes renovations). Gerard Moreno and Giovanni Lo Celso both struck in the first half whilst Francis Coquelin and Jose Luis Morales scored late on to hand the Yellow Submarine a very comfortable three points against an Elche side who never really looked in the game.

The last goal came as El Comandante’s first league goal for the club after joining from Levante in the summer. Like Betis, Villarreal will see Sevilla’s struggles as an opportunity to break into Spain’s top four this season, and both clubs may even look beyond that with the way in which they have started the campaign.

Score Prediction: Real Betis 1-1 Villarreal

With Betis and Villarreal in such strong form, it should be assumed that both teams show up and put on strong performances which should allow for a fantastic match with many chances. However, Manuel Pellegrini and Unai Emery are highly experienced managers and with so much on the line here, they may end up cancelling each other out which makes a draw the most likely result.
