Real Betis planning to sign Barcelona defender Chadi Riad in January

According to AS, Real Betis have made contact with Chadi Riad’s entourage to express the club’s willingness to exercise the €3m buy option included in the current loan deal.

This option was mandatory if Riad completed a series of objectives, however, due to Betis’ current injury crisis and the form of the player, the club have decided against waiting until the end of the season to complete the deal.

The Moroccan defender, who is currently on loan from third-place Barcelona, has made eight appearances for Betis this season but was substituted last Saturday due to stomach problems. Due to the sale of Luiz Felipe and the injury to defender Marc Bartra, Riad has played significant minutes in La Liga matches this season.

The 20-year-old made his debut against his parent club Barcelona but was on the receiving end of a 5-0 humiliation.
