Racist Udinese fan abused Mike Maignan ’12 times’ and was known to the police

A 46-year-old man has been identified as the supporter who racially abused Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, during the Rossoneri’s clash with Udinese in Serie A on Saturday evening.

La Stampa (via MilaNews.it) reports that investigations are continuing into the supporter, who posted a video on social media and who was already known to the police. The journal also states that the individual racially abused Maignan 12 times, forcing the French international to alert match referee Fabio Maresca, who subsequently suspended the match for several minutes.

Events in Udine were seen around the world and Italian football authorities are under pressure to bring the culprit to justice. Latest reports state that it is now up to the prosecutor as to whether they will formally charge the suspect, who has already received a five-year banning order from all sporting events in Italy. This follows a lifetime ban by Udinese from attending matches at the Blue Energy Stadium – Stadio Friuli.
