Queens Park Rangers have appointed Neil Critchley as their new head coach.
The West London outfit confirmed that the 44-year-old has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal at Loftus Road Stadium.
Critchley was most recently serving as assistant head coach at Aston Villa but left his position soon after the dismissal of Steven Gerrard in October.
However, he has now taken over the Super Hoops as their new manager in the latest Championship news.
Critchley played briefly as a midfielder for Crewe Alexandra before retiring at the age of 24 to become the club’s academy director.
He joined Liverpool’s set-up in 2013 and managed the club at various levels before landing a job at Blackpool as their new head coach.
The English boss enjoyed a successful two-year spell at Bloomfield Road as he led them to Championship promotion in 2020-21 and also achieved safety in the second tier last season.
The 44-year-old will now succeed Michael Beale who left to join Rangers last month.
Beale had declined the opportunity to become Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new boss earlier this season but accepted the proposal from the Scottish giants.
The Super Hoops were at the top of the standings at one point in October but their impressive league form has nosedived in November.
They have now lost five of their seven Championship matches to be ninth in the table. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Burnley who comfortably won 3-0 to restore their three-point advantage at the top.
