Manuel Ugarte’s (23) first season at Paris Saint-Germain has not gone entirely to plan. Following his €60m move from Sporting, the Uruguayan international quickly found his place in Luis Enrique’s starting XI. Having stated seven of PSG’s first eight games in Ligue 1, he has played a diminished role in recent times, especially in the UEFA Champions League, where he has not started any of the last five games.

Luis Enrique has instead preferred Vitinha, who provides more assurances in possession and who in the No.6 role, which he has taken off Ugarte, is having a standout season. A contract extension, in line with the Portuguese midfielder’s growth, is even being discussed.
Within this context, reports in Italy have linked Juventus with an attempted loan move for Ugarte. However, these reports have been denied by Fabrizio Romano, who insists that PSG have no intention of letting Ugarte leave on loan this summer.
