Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with AS Roma head coach Jose Mourinho over the managerial position, reports Foot Mercato.
Current manager Christophe Galtier has been heavily linked with an exit following a lacklustre season where PSG faced an early elimination from the Champions League and French Cup.
Despite topping the Ligue 1 table, Galtier’s tactics have been called into question over PSG’s inconsistent form, with the recent setback against Lorient further proof of it.
Moreover, the recent racism allegations over the French gaffer have exacerbated his situation, fuelling his exit speculation.
PSG have earmarked Mourinho as their top candidate for the managerial role should Galtier leave in the summer.
Mourinho’s impressive work at AS Roma hasn’t gone unnoticed, with the Portuguese gaffer reviving the Giallorossi’s fortunes and turning them into a formidable side.
Although Roma have slumped to seventh place due to a slight decline in recent weeks, they have been impressive overall and are also set to face Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
PSG are yet to communicate with Roma, but they are looking to persuade Mourinho with the help of his compatriot and football advisor Luis Campos – the pair have previously worked at Real Madrid.
The former Chelsea manager will be looking for more backing from Roma in the transfer market, but the club’s finances will take a hit if they miss out on the top four in Serie A and fail to win the Europa League.
Elsewhere at PSG, Mourinho can work with Campos in unison on the transfer plans and will also have more liberty in the transfer market.
Les Parisiens view Mourinho as the ideal manager to put an end to their woes in the Champions League.
Lionel Messi is set to leave Parc des Princes this summer in the wake of his suspension for his unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.
The Argentine’s relationship with the fans has also completely broken, with PSG ultras recently hurling abusive chants at him.
