Possible Premier League destinations for €13m-rated star

Speculation linking Paulo Dybala with an AS Roma exit aren’t going away anytime soon, particularly with his release clause offering foreign teams an excellent cut-price deal.

Pegged at a meagre €13 million for non-Italian clubs, the clause offers Dybala a wide range of possibilities if the World Cup winners want to jump ship mid-season.

Since the intricate details of his contract were made public, several clubs, particularly Premier League sides, have been monitoring his development in the Italian capital.

His impressive form this season also makes his release clause even more eye-catching.

Dybala has plunged four goals and six assists in 12 Serie A games, establishing himself as a cornerstone for Roma’s top-four push.

A mid-season exit would undoubtedly serve as a devastating blow to Jose Mourinho, whose side sit five points adrift of the Champions League places.

The good news for Mourinho is that Dybala is happy in Rome, according to Gazzetta, but Roma would be powerless to resist if a foreign club activates the release clause.

They could block the transfer by offering Dybala a bonus, but their financial situation limits the chances of a payout.

So, with a potential exit on the cards, we analyse a couple of Premier League clubs well-positioned for a player of Dybala’s skillset to make an instant impact.

Manchester United

Considering the calibre of players they’ve added to the payroll over the years, it’s not surprising that Manchester United are among a number of clubs keen to lure Dybala to the Premier League.

But unlike their previous bad decisions, this one may not be the worst idea in the world.

Bruno Fernandes has shouldered the creative burden for the Red Devils this season, but he has repeatedly been let down by an utterly disappointing and wasteful attacking line.

Dybala isn’t the goalscoring machine United need to turn their appalling campaign around, but he takes some of the creative burden off Fernandes and adds goals to the team.

His €13m price tag also makes him a cost-effective solution to United’s attacking woes and should have no problems displacing Antony on the right flank.

Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou’s bid to return Tottenham Hotspur to the Champions League places will take a significant knock this January with top scorer and captain Heung-min Son off to the Asian Cup tournament.

Richarlison’s revival couldn’t have come at a better time, but with James Maddison still on the sidelines, Spurs need a multifaceted option to fill in for Son.

That’s where Dybala comes in. With Son away, Dybala could slot in as a supporting striker behind Richarlison, allowing Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski to mount the flanks.

Since Postecoglou’s arrival, Spurs have made several shrewd acquisitions that have propelled the club toward the European places, and Dybala’s skillset makes him a no-brainer for the North Londoners.
