Poland icon tells ‘unpopular’ Robert Lewandowski to leave Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski is back up to full fitness at Barcelona but his future at the club remains uncertain from the start of 2026 onwards.

Lewandowski’s season start was disrupted by injuries before making his return to national team duty with Poland earlier this month to build up his fitness.

It was a mixed international window for Lewandowski with a late 1-1 draw in the Netherlands and a 3-1 home victory against Finland as the returning captain scored in the latter.

The 37-year-old has since netted three La Liga goals as part of Hansi Flick’s easing him back into action as fans await updates on contract extension news.

The former Bayern Munch star is out of contract at the end of the season, but Barcelona do have a 12-month renewal option, which Deco has confirmed is being discussed.

The final decision will come down to a joint call on how capable Lewandowski is to continue performing at the very highest level.

However, there are growing calls from his native Poland to leave Barcelona, according to legendary former goal keeper Jan Tomaszewski.

Poland icon tells Lewandowski to accept Saudi Pro League offer

Tomaszewski’s explosive interview with Polish outlet Super Express – via Diario AS – saw him call out Lewandowski’s Ballon d’Or ranking of 17 and told the striker to accept a move to Saudi Arabia in 2026.

“Robert should end his time at Barcelona right now and go to a club in Saudi Arabia, like the best players in the world have done, except for Messi,” he said.

“Robert isn’t very popular with the team and Barcelona’s best players don’t pass him the ball.

“I think Lewandowski should have been in the top 10. The winner was undoubtedly a controversial player, but he won the Champions League, and it would be crazy for someone outside of that level to win this award.”

As part of his rant, Tomaszewski also claimed Flick should be dismissed, after failing to win the Champions League last season.

“Barcelona has a squad to win the Champions League. I hope they don’t extend Flick’s contract, because he isn’t performing very well. He can’t continue.

“With such a strong footballing force, he should have won everything in Europe, but they lost to Inter who were exposed by PSG in the final.”
