L’Équipe are reporting that Pierre Sage could remain Olympique Lyonnais’ interim manager until the winter break. Should he do so, Sage would be in the dugout for the games against Toulouse FC, AS Monaco and FC Nantes.
Lyon are racing through the managers this season. Laurent Blanc departed in September, and after a brief interim period, he was replaced by Fabio Grosso. The Italian manager’s stint was the shortest in the club’s history (seven games, one win) and he has now been replaced by Sage, who has been promoted from the academy.
Lyon schedule meeting with Bruno Genesio
There were positive signs in Sage’s opening game against RC Lens, despite a 3-2 defeat, however, it was normal service resumed in a 3-0 defeat to Olympique de Marseille in midweek. However, Lyon seem unwilling to rush this managerial decision. According to L’Équipe, Sage is a contender to take the job, and in the case of a victory against Toulouse on Sunday, he will remain in the post at least until the winter break, which starts after OL’s match against Nantes on December 20th.
However, a defeat against Le TéFéCé would certainly call time on Sage’s time. Former manager Bruno Genesio and Jorge Sampaoli are the favourites to take the job on a full-time basis, and the former is set for talks with owner John Textor imminently, whilst Argentine media TyC Sports report that Sampaoli is nearing an agreement to join the club.
