Petr Cech’s Two Children Both Play For Same English Club

Petr Cech’s children are following in the Chelsea legend’s footsteps by embarking on football careers of their own, but neither will be joining the Blues, if it’s up to their father.

The 43-year-old became one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history during his time at Stamford Bridge. He made 494 appearances, winning 13 major trophies, including four league titles and the UEFA Champions League.

Cech will have an enormous wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on to his children regarding becoming a success on the pitch. While his son and daughter are starting to make a name for themselves, the former 124-cap Czech international is seemingly keen for them to stay away from the Bridge.

Cech’s daughter, Adela Cechova, is making waves at Fulham, but not between the sticks as her father did during his career. She is a defender whose impressive showings for the Cottagers’ U17s led to an international breakthrough.

Adela made her debut off the bench for Czechia’s U17 national team in a 3-0 loss to Mexico in the MIMA Cup in February. Her stock is continuing to grow, and her coach, Daniel Smejkal, said at the time (via The Sun) that she was a “promising defender” who was taken to the tournament in Spain so that they could “get to know her better”.

Cech’s son, Damian, has also done the Chelsea hero proud by joining Adela at Fulham and signing his first professional contract. Unlike his sister, he is a goalkeeper who was a member of the Blues’ youth academy before moving to Craven Cottage, where the 16-year-old is quickly making strides.

Damian made his debut for Czechia’s U18s team at the age of just 15, which suggests we could have another Petr Cech on our hands. The former Arsenal shot-stopper will be keen for them to focus on their football as he did throughout his career.

Cech even missed the birth of Adela on January 23, 2008, as Chelsea met Everton in the League Cup semi-finals. He wasn’t named in Avram Grant’s matchday squad and told People Magazine that it was “both the best and saddest day of his life,” adding that he stayed glued to his phone.

The six-time Czech Player of the Year retired in July 2019 while at Arsenal before returning to Stamford Bridge and working in a board advisory role. That was until Roman Abramovich sold the club to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in May 2022.

There was huge backlash over the new owners’ decision because of his ties to the club and his legendary status. He may have that in mind amid claims from Czech outlet iDNES.cz that suggest he doesn’t want his children to play for the west London giants:

“She will always be ‘Cech’s daughter’, but I don’t think he will push her up. Quite the opposite, because he doesn’t want any of his children to play for a Chelsea team where he is a legend.”

Cech will hope to see Adela and Damian continue to rise in English football while he enjoys his post-retirement, still keeping net, just not on the pitch. He is English ice hockey team Oxford City Stars’ goaltender, which speaks volumes of his passion for sport.
