Pereira Must Drop ‘Disastrous’ Star ASAP, He’s Played Every Game

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Vitor Pereira is right up against it at Molineux, with the club having lost all five of their Premier League games – and dropping one star would boost his chances of survival after a shocking loss to relegation rivals Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

The Old Gold have faced Manchester City, Bournemouth, Everton, Newcastle United and Leeds in their opening five games, and although they may have been expected to lose against both City and Newcastle, Everton and Leeds in particular were games there for the taking at Molineux.

Liam Keen: Wolves Star Emmanuel Agbadou ‘Disastrous’ vs Leeds

Instead, they have failed to take any points, conceding at least three goals in all three of their home fixtures, signalling losses from the get-go. And it could mean dropping defender Emmanuel Agbadou, who has been labelled as ‘disastrous’ by Wolves reporter, Liam Keen.

Agbadou was a January signing from French outfit Reims, and starred for them last season after a £16.6million move from Ligue 1, but this season has been much different.

Keen wrote in the Express and Star that he was ‘disastrous’, making mistakes and showing poor body language, which ultimately contributed to Leeds’ win. Keen wrote:

“It was a disastrous afternoon for Agbadou, who made another terrible mistake for the third goal and displayed poor body language in the second half.”

Agbadou’s slack pass into midfield found the feet of Anton Stach, who calmly laid off Noah Okafor to smash home Leeds’ third, and it was all uphill from there for Wolves, who have only scored three goals all season and with Tottenham Hotspur away from home next, it could be six losses from six games for the Black Country outfit.

Agbadou was one of Wolves’ best players in the second half of last season, but mistakes such as the one for Okafor’s goal are inexcusable. He did win six of his seven aerial duels, though it was Yerson Mosquera who was targeted by Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Agbadou had it easy in that regard.

Defender Ladislav Krejci scored the goal to give Wolves the lead, and he should be used at the back in the future, with Andre instead coming in to replace him in central midfield. It’s one of many changes that Pereira will have to make going forward, but with such poor performances from the Ivory Coast international, it will have to be high on his priority list.

Wolves had a poor start last season, with just one point in their opening eight games – albeit seven of those games came against clubs who had qualified for Europe by the end of the campaign.

This time around, only two of the five clubs ended up in European competition via last season’s finish, and with a weaker squad, that could be of huge detriment to the Molineux side, who are staring relegation down the barrel for the second time in two seasons. Changing something in the near future will stop the rot that they are enduring, with the changing of Agbadou being vital to survival hopes.
