Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side suffered a surprise 4-0 defeat against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.
It was Man City’s fifth defeat in a row in all competitions and the result proved that the Premier League champions are going through a crisis at the moment.
It is unusual to say that about Guardiola’s Man City side but nothing has worked for them recently and their performances have gone from bad to worse.
It does not get any easier for them in the coming weeks as they face Arne Slot’s table toppers Liverpool at Anfield next weekend.
Goals from James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson inflicted a massive defeat on Guardiola and his team against his bogey side Tottenham.
The Spaniard reserved praised for two players in particular after the defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
After the match, speaking to the reporters, the Man City manager said, as reported by TBR Football:
“Well, 0-4, nothing much to say right.
“Congratulations Tottenham.
“We are a little bit fragile now. We started really well and we couldn’t score. And the first time they arrive [in our box] they score.
“Of course, the quality of Kulusevski and Maddison was good.”
Man City are going through their worst form since 2006 and to see that coming under Guardiola is not normal.
The Spaniard has raised the standards of the club so much that it is looking like an alien thing to see them lose five matches in a row.
Pep Guardiola is going through his worst form in Premier League
After winning four Premier League titles in a row, the Sky Blues were expected to win the league again this season but their current form and Liverpool’s flying start to the season have changed things in the landscape of Premier League football.
Guardiola had never suffered five defeats in a row in his managerial career but now he faces the difficult job of bringing the club out of crisis as they challenge on all fronts once again this season.
The absence of Rodri, who will be out for the whole season, has exposed the Premier League winners in such a way that nobody expected.
It is still too early to write off Guardiola and his Man City side as they have shown many times in the past that they can come back to win it all in the end.
