OGC Nice are set to miss out on forward William Bøving (22), according to L’Equipe.
L’Equipe reports that Bøving will instead join Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 for a €4.5m transfer fee.
Nice had shown strong interest in Bøving. With attacking talent like Jérémie Boga and Evann Guessand set to leave the Allianz Riviera, Bøving was viewed as a potential replacement. He began his career at FC København – where he made 44 appearances for the first team, scoring five goals.
His career took off following a move to Austrian Bundesliga side Sturm Graz in August 2022. The 2024-5 campaign proved Bøving’s most fruitful to date. In 42 appearances, he contributed 11 goals and six assists. He also made eight appearances in the club’s UEFA Champions League campaign.
With the Danish U21 international now set to move to Germany, Nice will have to explore other attacking options this transfer window.
