Stade Rennais have signed Switzerland international centre-forward Breel Embolo (28) from AS Monaco, both clubs have announced. The 28-year-old has entered the final months of his contract with Adi Hütter’s Les Monégasques. AS Monaco were not opposed to selling Embolo, who has not been included in a matchday squad yet this season. Monaco and Rennes reportedly agreed to a €13m transfer fee.
Rennes were in the market for a traditional centre-forward after parting ways with Arnaud Kalimuendo. The former France youth international, who logged 17 Ligue 1 goals last season, was poached by Nottingham Forest in exchange for a €35m transfer fee. Rennes previously signed Estéban Lepaul from Ligue 1 rivals Angers SCO in a €16m switch. Embolo has signed a four-year deal with Les Rouge et Noir.
