The German FA has confirmed that Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade will be reporting to training camp on Tuesday evening. A statement published on the DFB website confirms Woltemade’s imminent arrival in Herzogenaurach. The DFB does note that the 23-year-old’s continued struggles with flu-like symptoms mean that he might not be able to partake in tomorrow morning’s training session.
In any event – as had been a topic of concern – there will be no player called up to directly replace Woltemade. German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has already called up two additional players since his initial squad was confirmed last week. Freiburg keeper Noah Atubolu will not be directly replacing anyone. Brentford attacker Kevin Schade will take the squad slot of the injured Jamie Leweling.
“Nick Woltemade will arrive at team headquarters late Tuesday,” the DFB statement reads. “He was unable to travel to link up with the team yesterday due to a flu-like infection. It remains unclear when Woltemade will be able to join team training.“
