Official | Marco Rose signs a contract extension at RB Leipzig until 2025

RB Leipzig have announced that coach Marco Rose has signed a contract extension at the club until 2025.

On extending his contract at Leipzig, Rose said: “When I looked at all the happy faces of tens of thousands of fans after winning the cup, it made me proud. Leipzig is my city and East Germany is my home. The “KarLi”, the “Cossi”, the people and everything that goes with it. For me, it is a privilege and commitment at the same time to continue working together with my coaching team and the employees of RB Leipzig on the development of our club. Even after the upheaval this summer, we want to stand for football with which the fans can identify. If we succeed, we will have a lot of fun together in the stadium and celebrate further successes. I am pleased with the trust of those responsible and am happy that I can continue to be part of RB Leipzig and write the story.”

Sporting director Max Eberl also commented on the extension of Rose’s contract: “Marco took over RB Leipzig last season in a difficult phase. Together with his coaching team, he stabilized the team, overcame resistance and in the end a great 3. Place in the Bundesliga and thus achieved qualification for the Champions League. The crowning glory of the season was the cup victory for all of us. Marco combines many things that make up an outstanding coach and fits RB football and Leipzig like a fist on the eye. He lets you play very actively and in a straight line forward and yet with good stability. His football includes pressing, switching game and possession equally. Our personal relationship is characterized by trust and great appreciation. We are both extremely ambitious and success-oriented. We want to challenge ourselves again and again. That’s why we decided on a two-year contract and are very happy to continue the journey together.” 

Rose joined Leipzig in September last season replacing Domenic Tedesco and in his tenure, the Leipzig native was able to turn the team’s season around and led them to a third-placed finish in the league as well as a second successive DFB-Pokal after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the final. 

This season the aim for Leipzig will be to take the momentum built up at the end of last season and try to push Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund for the title. However, the challenge for Rose will be doing it without some of Leipzig’s best players last season as Konrad Laimer (Bayern Munich), Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea) and Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) have all left Leipzig this summer, while Joško Gvardiol is close to joining Manchester City.

If the incoming this summer can hit the ground running then Leipzig will once again be able to challenge for the title this season after their poor form at the beginning of last season ended their hopes early on.
