Florian Grillitsch’s return to his old stomping ground is officially confirmed. The Sinsheim-based club announced a new deal for the 27-year-old on Tuesday morning. The Austrian international returns on a free transfer from Ajax Amsterdam and has signed a contract good through the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
“Grillo is an outstanding footballer who – with his outstanding talent on the ball, technical skills, and fantastic understanding of the game – has already been a real difference-maker for us in the past,” TSG sporting director Alexander Rosen noted in a statement released on the club website, “With his experience, he should not only play a dominant role on the pitch, but also lead the way as a leader within the team and in the dressing room.”
“I’m really excited to be back at TSG Hoffenheim,” the player himself added, “In recent weeks, I have been in the fortunate position of being able to examine a wide range of options for my sporting future, and I made a conscious decision to return to TSG with complete conviction.”
“The contact with many people at the club has never been severed,” Grillitsch continued, “and I know exactly what TSG stands for and what it takes to play successful football here. The past few months have certainly brought me further in my development and I’m eager to fully contribute here again from day one.”
Grillitsch played five seasons for die Kraichgauer before jumping ship last summer. He contested 130 league fixtures and represented the club in 151 appearances across all competitions. In total, the defensive minded midfielder scored eight goals for his long-time club. Grillitsch had the distinction of scoring the TSG’s first goal at Champions’ League level back in September of 2018.
