Bayer Leverkusen talent Kerim Alajbegovic has joined Austrian side RB Salzburg for a reported €2m. The 17-year-old has signed a long-term contract until 2029.
Bayer 04 meanwhile retain a buyback clause in the player’s contract.
“Kerim Alajbegovic will now take the next important step in his professional career in Austria,” said sporting director Simon Rolfes. “We have high hopes for him and will follow his career closely.”
Alajbegovic scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists in 26 games across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen’s U19 team last season as they went on to lose the U19 final against local rivals FC Köln.
In the UEFA Youth League, Alajbegovic scored three goals in six appearances.
Upon joining RB Salzburg, Alajbegovic said: “I am delighted that the transfer worked out, and I just can’t wait to get started for FC Red Bull Salzburg. It’s the right move for me, as it’s well known that they have developed so many young players so well here in Salzburg. I want to develop here too. Other aims with my new club are playing at the highest possible level in European competition and winning the Austrian title.”
