Official: Barcelona star withdraws from international duty

A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Saturday been forced to withdraw from national team duty with Spain.

The player in question? Gavi.

The name of youngster Gavi has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last 24 hours.

This comes after word was forthcoming that the 21-year-old had suffered an injury setback in training.

Following a collision at the Ciutat Esportiva on Friday, Gavi was forced to limp out of proceedings prematurely.

Panic, in turn, quickly set in, after it was revealed that the problem had come in the same knee which the player previously had surgically repaired following a torn ACL.

And though hope remains that the injury is not a serious one, Gavi will nevertheless play no part in the upcoming international break.

As per a statement released by the RFEF on Saturday:

‘Gavi has been removed from the Spain squad. The FC Barcelona midfielder will not join the training camp due to discomfort in his right knee.’
