Bild report that Nottingham Forest have submitted a first offer for Mainz defender Moussa Niakhaté.
The newly-promoted Premier League side offered a reported fee less than €10m, a figure below M05’s valuation. The Bundesliga side want around €15m for their captain, who is entering the final year of his contract.
A contract extension is unlikely and Mainz expect Niakhaté to leave the club this summer but are in no rush to sell. West Ham United and Everton are also monitoring the current situation of the central-defender.
Sky Germany reported last week that Nottingham Forest reached a verbal agreement with Niakhaté.
The 26-year-old has played 135 games in all competitions for Mainz since his €6m move from Metz in 2018. The former French youth international missed just four Bundesliga games last season and has become a mainstay in the defence.
Mainz have already lost one defender this summer after Jeremiah St. Juste joined Sporting CP for €10m but Bochum’s Maxim Leitsch arrived as a replacement.
