Are Paris Saint-Germain really any better than they were a year ago? It’s a question which has been posed by many of late, with the club’s ‘transitional’ project attracting increasing levels of scrutiny following Les Parisiens’ draw against FC Nantes (1-1) and their poor recent performances in the Champions League.
Speaking on air with RMC Sport, former PSG striker Nicolas Anelka has pointed the finger at the media about the recent change in direction at the capital club. “You (the media) have criticised PSG’s stars but now they are now gone there are no TV rights, and it doesn’t interest anyone anymore.”
“Nothing has really changed, you have dominance in Ligue 1 and then they struggle against teams with quality in the Champions League. […] Yes they are a team without stars but with some very good players after all. They are top of the league in Ligue 1 right? So what are you (the media) asking for?”
“In the Champions League they are not yet eliminated. Anything can happen in three matches.”
Anelka has been previously quoted as being impressed by Luis Enrique’s side earlier in the season when speaking with Le Parisien. “PSG play as a team, and everyone is making the effort. I am not saying that this was not the case last year, but I feel a greater collective strength.“
