OGC Nice players and head coach Didier Digard, as well as club employees. have been questioned by police in the last few days as part of a preliminary investigation into allegations of racism against former Les Aiglons boss Christophe Galtier, according to a report from RMC Sport.
The current PSG head coach allegedly held discriminatory remarks during his sole season as Nice boss, according to a leaked mail attributed to Julien Fournier, the club’s former Sporting Director. Galtier has strongly denied the allegations and has launched legal proceedings against Fournier and the two journalists – Romain Molina and Daniel Riolo – who first reported on the mail.
Preliminary legal investigations for the counts of “discrimination in the workplace in terms of ethnicity or religious affiliation” are being carried out at Nice. The club’s headquarters were searched by police to recover the mail and verify its contents. OGC Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère revealed he was questioned by the police, but didn’t disclose what he said to the investigators: “Everyone will have total freedom to express themselves to say what they think. I have already been questioned, I gave all the elements that I considered to be in my possession. Everyone will do the same.”
RMC Sport now report that several players and employees, as well as Digard, who was in charge of the reserve team last season, have been questioned. Speaking as a guest on RMC tonight, Nice skipper and former Brazil international Dante explained he “can’t speak on a matter that revolves around peoples who saw or heard things.”
