Julian Nagelsmann has shared his initial thoughts on how to fill the void left by Toni Kroos in the German national team.

Following Germany’s 2-1 extra-time loss to Spain at Euro 2024 on Friday, Toni Kroos is retiring from football.

At a press conference on Saturday, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann discussed his initial plan to fill the void left by the legendary midfielder, comparing Bayern Munich’s Aleksander Pavlovic and Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller to the 34-year-old.

“It will be very difficult to replace him one-to-one,” Nagelsmann admitted.

“We already have candidates in ‘Pavlo’ and Angelo Stiller who have a similar style of play. They will have to continue their good performances in the new season.

“Toni has always said that he is not the only savior. In the long term, we will be able to replace him,” said Nagelsmann.

Germany kick off their 2024/25 UEFA Nations League campaign against Hungary in September.
