In an interview with AFP, AS Monaco manager Adi Hütter said that his side “can dream” of winning the Ligue 1 title this year following their impressive start to the season.
Monaco are currently top of the table following three wins and a draw in their first four games. In that time, the Principality club have scored an impressive 13 goals, whilst new signing Folarin Balogun has not yet been fully integrated into the side. There are clearly goals in this side, and whilst solidifying their defence is a priority, their clean sheet against RC Lens just before the international break is a positive step.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain have not begun the season in imperious form. Luis Enrique’s side drew the first two games of the season before looking more convincing against Lens and Olympique Lyonnais. Hütter’s interview was prior to PSG’s 3-2 defeat against OGC Nice at the Parc des Princes, which will further encourage their rivals.
Asked whether Monaco can aim higher than the podium this season, Hütter replied, “The most important thing is to get back into Europe. The president, the sporting director, the coach and the team are all aligned with a high and difficult objective: the podium. Above that… the title? [laughs] Yes, we can dream, of course! Sometimes dreams do come true. But PSG are very strong!”
