Moise Bombito’s World Cup dreams still alive?

OGC Nice confirmed on Sunday that Moise Bombito (25) suffered a fractured tibia during Sunday’s 2-2 draw against AS Monaco. The Canada international is set to miss several months of action, however, there is hope that he could return in the Spring, as per a report from L’Équipe.

“We have lost a soldier,” said Nice’s Sofiane Diop in a mixed zone interview attended by Get French Football News, following the incident. It was a collision between Bombito and USMNT forward Folarin Balogun, which resulted in the awarding of a penalty for Monaco, that led to the serious injury. He is expected to undergo an operation on the tibia fracture this week before a long period of rehabilitation.

L’Équipe understands that he could return at the start of Spring, depending on how his recovery evolves. It means that, whilst much of Bombito’s season will be spent on the sidelines, there is hope of returning for the run-in and also playing in next summer’s FIFA World Cup, part of which will be played in his native Canada.
