Ahead of the Rossonerri’s season closure against Verona this evening, Milan winger Rafael Leão touched upon his feelings after finally renewing his stay with the Milanese club in a pre-match interview.
Throughout the majority of this year’s campaign, doubts and concerns were raised regarding the Portuguese international’s future with Milan as both parties struggled to reach an agreement regarding Leão’s renewal as his contract was set to expire in 2024, possibly forcing Milan to have had offloaded the 24 year-old in order to avoid losing him for a low-ball fee.
However, all the uncertainty regarding Leão has dissipated as the world class winger extended his stay with Milan until 2028, earning a salary of €7m, releasing a huge sigh of relief for Milanese supporters.
While speaking to Dazn Italia, as relayed by MilanNews, Leão expressed his happiness to finally have resolved the situation regarding his renewal and the importance of having Stefano Pioli throughout his development:
“I was anxious to resolve this situation. Milan already knew what they wanted to do, my intention was to agree, it took us a while but it ended well for everyone: fans, family and me. I’m calmer now.
Pioli was very important to me, he made me the player I am today as I am more mature. I have to thank him”.
