Mexico Football will take on the Dominican Republic in the opening game of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Mexico enters the competition hoping to repeat as champions — and win their 10th total Gold Cup title — after lifting the trophy two years ago in the United States.
El Tri are fresh off a 1-0 win over Turkiye in their final preparation match ahead of the tournament on Tuesday, bouncing back from a disappointing 4-2 loss to Switzerland last weekend.
Mexico surely sees themselves as the best team in North and Central America at the moment, having won the Concacaf Nations League in March after beating Panama 2-1 in the final at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Dominican Republic, meanwhile, are participating in the Gold Cup for the first time ever. Los Quisqueyanos have been good in 2025 so far, winning two games, drawing one and losing one.
The Caribbean island is fresh off a convincing 5-0 over Dominica in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Mexico and the Dominican Republic have been placed in Group A with Costa Rica and Suriname.

Dominican Republic Predicted Lineup vs Mexico
The most notable name in the Dominican Republic squad for the Gold Cup is Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo, who has 11 caps with the national team and helped the Whites win the EFL Championship this past season.
The Dominicans have a number of players currently plying their trade in Europe, and a few playing the lower leagues in the United States.
Dominican Republic record goalscorer Dorny Romero is also in the squad, and will be hoping to add to his 26 goals with his country over the course of the tournament.
Dominican Republic predicted lineup (4-5-1): Xavier Valdez (GK) – Joao Urbaez, Luiyi De Lucas, Edgar Pujol, Junior Firpo – Pablo Rosario, Peter Gonzalez, Jimmy Kaparos, Heinz Morschel, Edarlyn Reyes – Dorny Romero.
Mexico Predicted Lineup vs Dominican Republic
Mexico’s strike partnership of Raul Jimenez and Santiago Gimenez has been a force since the two were paired up, and there’s no reason to think El Tri won’t go with that forward line once again on Saturday.
Oberlin Pineda was the sole goalscorer in Mexico’s win against Turkiye in midweek, and he should remain in the starting lineup, operating on the right flank. Toluca star Alexis Vega should get the start on the left.
Mexico predicted lineup (4-4-2): Luis Malagon (GK) – Jorge Sanchez, Israel Reyes, Cesar Montes, Jesus Gallardo – Oberlin Pineda, Edson Alvarez, Marcel Ruiz, Alexis Vega – Raul Jimenez, Santiago Gimenez.
