Since Sandro Wagner took over as Augsburg coach in the summer, 20-year-old Mert Kömür has established himself as a regular starter at the WWK-Arena.
Most recently, Kömür played a key role in Augsburg’s 3-1 win over Wolfsburg at the weekend, providing the assist for Noahkai Banks’ opener before later getting on the scoresheet himself.
Speaking to Bild in the wake of the match, Wagner praised the young attacker highly:
“Mert has no limits, I’ve told him that before,” he said.
“He has a lot of quality and doesn’t need to hide,” the Augsburg coach added.
Kömür, meanwhile, remained modest about his performance.
“Of course I’m happy when I score goals or provide assists, but the most important thing is that the team feels good.”
The youngster could make his debut for the German U21 national team in the upcoming fixtures against Greece and Northern Ireland.
