Olympique de Marseille have secured the signing of free agent Luiz Felipe (27) after the Italy international’s contract termination with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The former Real Betis and Lazio Rome centre-back is expected to arrive in Marseille on Monday, the day after Les Phocéens’s Ligue 1 game against Le Havre. Luiz Felipe will put pen to paper over a contract set to expire in 2026. The 27-year-old joined Al-Ittihad in September 2023 from Real Betis in a €22m deal.
Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille were in the market for a centre-back given the Italian manager sometimes had to rely on Geoffrey Kondogbia to fill in at the back. Les Phocéens‘ move for Luiz Felipe also makes sense considering Lilian Brassier has failed to make an impression since his summer move from Stade Brestois. Luiz Felipe would be the first signing of the winter transfer window at Marseille, and the second Ligue 1 signing from Saudi Arabia after Seko Fofana’s move to Rennes.
