Marseille offered former Italy manager Roberto Donadoni as Marcelino replacement

Foot Mercato are reporting that former Italy head coach Roberto Donadoni has been offered to Olympique de Marseille, as the Ligue 1 club look to replace Marcelino.

The Spanish manager left Marseille after just seven games in charge. He felt he could not continue in the role following threats and insults levelled at him, as well as the club’s hierarchy during a meeting with supporter groups on Monday. Club president Pablo Longoria temporarily stepped back from his position as he considered his future, however, during a press conference on Friday, he confirmed that he would remain in the role.

His future resolved, Longoria’s focus is now on finding Marcelino’s successor. Jacques Abardonado is in charge on an interim basis, but it isn’t thought that the former OM player will take the role on a full-time basis. Donadoni, who managed Italy between 2006-08, has been offered to Marseille with contact established with Longoria, as well as sporting director Javier Ribalta. The former Napoli, Cagliari, Parma and Bologna manager has been out of work since leaving Chinese Super League Shenzhen in August 2020.
