Marcus Thuram reveals he came close to joining Inter in 2021

Inter star Marcus Thuram has revealed that he had come close to joining the Nerazzurri two seasons ago and he is glad he finally joined the club.

Thuram has been one of the most impactful signings in European football this season, having combined brilliantly with Lautaro Martinez upfront. In 12 Serie A games, he has scored four goals while racking up eight assists. In the Champions League, he has one goal for the Nerazzurri.

The Frenchman spoke to DAZN (via La Gazzetta dello Sport) about his time at the club so far and he revealed that he wanted to join Inter even in 2021 and he waited for them for two years to sign him.

“Last June I chose Inter because of a feeling I had inside. Two years earlier I had to come here and I was injured. It hurt me terribly because I had already imagined myself wearing the Inter shirt and playing at San Siro. Two years later that feeling remained with me and I wanted to come here. The first one who wrote to me when I arrived was Dimarco. He welcomed me and told me that he had been waiting for me for two years.”

Thuram had scored a brilliant goal for Inter against Milan in the derby and he was asked about the moment. The France international said:

“When I close my eyes and think of the derby, I think of the moment we enter the field and there are the two choreographies. It was special. The goal? I remember that it was born from a counter. Lautaro sends Dumfries deep, I recover the ball, I see that Thiaw doesn’t attack me immediately, it means I have time to turn, I aim and I’m one on one with him. I have time to shoot, I come in, I shoot, I score a goal.”

Thuram came in as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku and a case can be made of the fact that he has already performed better than the Belgian.
