Manchester United are interested in signing one of Barcelona’s emerging midfielders, according to ESPN Deportes.
The Red Devils spent almost £200 million on five high-profile signings over the summer, but they also focused on bolstering the academy.
Sekou Kone was recruited from Guidars FC before the transfer deadline, while Samuel Lusale recently joined the club from Crystal Palace.
The club are also expected to confirm the arrival of Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal in the near future.
United have now reportedly expressed an interest in signing Marc Bernal from Barcelona.
They are prepared to pay the £16.7 million release clause in his contract, but the youngster is not contemplating a move abroad.
Barcelona will officially confirm Bernal’s renewal this week.
Bernal set to continue with Barcelona
The 17-year-old made his breakthrough with Barcelona under manager Hansi Flick this term.
He started in the defensive midfield position during the first three games but picked up a serious knee injury against Rayo Vallecano.
Bernal was impressive, recording a passing accuracy of 93 percent. He won 50% of his duels and made 2.7 tackles per game. The teenager lost possession on less than six occasions on average.
The Spaniard is obviously a huge talent. United have expressed an interest despite his setback, but Bernal looks set to commit his future to the Catalan giants later this week.
The news is a setback for the Red Devils, but the fans should appreciate that the club is trying to bring emerging talents with immense potential into the squad.
