Pau Cubarsi has developed into a vital player for Barcelona this season despite only turning 17 at the start of 2024.
His rise to prominence has been superb for La Blaugrana with Xavi Hernandez trusting him as a first choice centre back in key games.
That developed into a maiden call up to the Spain senior squad and he is expected to be included in the panel for Euro 2024.
However, despite his importance to Xavi and Barcelona, the teenager’s future could have taken different route in 2023.

Cubarsi joined the Barcelona youth set up in 2018, after four years at Girona, and the latter wanted to resign him last summer.
As per reports from Diario Sport, Girona sporting director Quique Carcel met with Cubarsi’s representatives to try and thrash out a deal.
Part of the agreement would have included Cubarsi potentially moving on to Manchester City, as part of Girona’s City Football Group partnership.
Girona had already flagged up Cubarsi’s performances to City but the defender rejected a Barcelona exit.
