Man Utd Star ‘Out of his Depth’ After Europa League Final

Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu was “out of his depth” in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, according to Samuel Luckhurst.

Tottenham Hotspur finally ended their trophy drought in the Europa League, stopping a run of 17 years without a major trophy. Brennan Johnson scored just before half-time and Spurs defended well in the second half, shutting out Manchester United to finally put their hands on some silverware once again.

With the win, Spurs have also qualified for the Champions League, something that is undeserved based on their league form. Spurs and Man United, at the time of writing, occupy the 17th and 16th spots in the Premier League respectively. Both clubs would have been in a fight for survival were it not for the already-relegated bottom three.

As such, the Europa League final was of significant importance to both teams. Not only for winning silverware, but for securing Champions League football. Missing out on Europe will massively impact what the Red Devils can do in the summer transfer window.

There is one player now who has been called out for his display against Tottenham, having a particularly poor match for the Old Trafford side.

Patrick Dorgu is, to date, the only signing made by Ruben Amorim during his reign as Man United manager so far. Formerly of Lecce, the full-back is a player that Amorim clearly has faith in, with Dorgu having quickly become part of the first team at Old Trafford.

Against Spurs, though, Dorgu struggled, something that Luckhurst, of the Manchester Evening News, noted after the game. He said:

“Started by default and did not cover himself in glory for Shaw’s own goal and misused the ball too often. Out of his depth.”

Dorgu has clearly been bought, at least in part, for his potential, meaning that he will most likely be with the Red Devils for some time yet. The Europa League final, however, showed that Man United may need some depth in the area, with Amorim evidently needing a number of signings in order to better implement his philosophy on his team.
