Manchester United are about to experience a busy summer transfer window under new mintory owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The British billionaire is looking to make big changes at the club, in the first team and the backroom staff. However, one of his biggest priorities at the club is to reduce the extravagant wage bill at Old Trafford.
ESPN have reported that in order to achieve their objective of a complete revamp of United, Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford, the sport director of INEOS, have concluded that reforms to the wage bill are necessary.
It’s thought that the team won’t be able to make the investments it wants to make without breaking the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Up to 11 players may be cut in order to restore financial balance.
Potential suitors may have access to high earners like Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Casemiro, and Harry Maguire.
Scott McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also mentioned as potential departures. When Anthony Martial’s contract ends in June, the wage bill will also be reduced by £250,000 per week.
Furthermore, it is known that individuals who are now on loan may be included to a shortlist for summer sales. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Facundo Pellistri (Granada), Donny van de Beek (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Brandon Williams (Ipswich) are among those in that contingent.
The club believes that at the moment, there are too many players at United who are not justifying their massive salaries and they should be dealt with in order to free up funds.
Even if they bring a great deal of reputation from their previous Real Madrid positions, Varane and Casemiro are two examples of players who haven’t shown they deserve a combined salary of £690,000 per week.
United are expected to invest in new young talent in the summer with Ratcliffe aiming to make the team’s core full of promising prospects who are going to develop at Old Trafford.
