Online sports journal “the Athletic” reports that the release clause that may potentially allow Borussia Dortmund to purchase Chelsea fullback Ian Maatsen totals €40.6 million. This is over €5 million more than the sum reported by Germany’s main sporting tabloid yesterday. It is widely known that Dortmund to do possess a purchase option for the 21-year-old or his on-loan EPL colleague Jadon Sancho.

Maatsen was inserted immediately into BVB trainer Edin Terzic’s starting XI against Darmstadt on Saturday night. In a match that wasn’t necessarily an exhilarating victory for die Schwarzgelben, Maatsen earned consistent praise from Bundesliga watchers as the team’s best and most consistent performer. All German press sources graded the youngster with top-two-level marks.
